Political queries of a sleep deprived twenty-something.

I know, I know, it’s late.  What could I possibly have to write about?  Well, it’s one of those nights when sleep isn’t coming so easily, so I thought I’d take a stab at blogging to calm my nerves–if they indeed need calming.

Tomorrow (technically today) is Tyler’s 23rd birthday.   So if you see him, wish him a good one.

I’ve been thinking about politics a lot, and had hoped to keep the whole discussion out of the Jenny & Tyler blog world, but as sleep seems unattainable right now, I may as well ask you a few questions, dear reader.

So I’ve been following a few of the candidates at a distance and have made a few observations of my own, but I still feel very naive and in the dark.  This will be my second opportunity to vote in a presidential election.  In 2004 I was a freshman in college and sat in a forum for some of the freshman scholars that up until November 2nd centered predominately on the coming election.  It was amusing to sit in a class of 12 18-year-olds who all seemed to think they knew anything and everything about politics, the world, religion, when in reality we all knew very little.  I had more than my fill of Kerry Vs. Bush debates concerning natural resources, the war, abortion, the economy…the list goes on and on.  And still when the time came to cast my vote, I don’t think I was well informed, and in retrospect I think I voted incorrectly.  I’m not sure my vote mattered with the electoral college system and what not, but still, this time I’d like to make a wise decision.

Obviously, things are a little different this time around.  We don’t even have a candidate for the Democrats yet.  And the primaries have passed in Delaware so it’s not like I can make a difference in that race (unless of course I were to contribute to a campaign nationally somehow, but at this point I’m not sure that I’d back either candidate).

So my question to you is, which presidential hopeful (Republican or Democrat) do you support and why?  Here’s your chance to demonstrate your knowledge and perhaps influence an undecided voter.

Kind of a heavy topic for 1am.
