Tour Highlights

We’ve returned from our October dates with Sara Groves & Audrey Assad! What a seriously awesome experience. Let me list a few highlights:

– Listening to Audrey cover Bridge Over Troubled Water every night. I cried every time I think. Gorgeous.  Check it out:

– Singing with Sara Groves on Eyes on the Prize and Miracle.

– Watching Troll 2 with everyone. Troll 2 is literally the worst movie ever made – in an awesome way. It’s like watching a Christopher Guest film, but it’s meant to be serious.

– Representing Food for the Hungry and having over 60 kids sponsored throughout the tour.

– Sharing the stage with Matt Slocum. Enough said.

– Seeing friends and family along the way.

To be honest, a lot of it is a blur. So much has happened over the past month and a half that I’m having trouble remembering it all. Thankfully I’ve been pretty faithful to my tour journal. Unfortunately we were lame and took about 3 pictures. Bummer.

Life goes on and we’re in the process of getting our Spring together. I’m hoping to book shows in the following areas:

WA, OR, TX, MS, GA, AL, NC, SC, DE, MD, PA, IL, and IN. If your church or college or even you or a friend with a living room might be interested in hosting a show, please shoot us an email at jennyandtyler(at)gmail(dot)com

We got back to Nashville at about 9am on Monday and have been in the studio since Tuesday working on our new record. You are going to LOVE it. I mean, I’m a bit biased, but I think that this is our best work to date. I’m so, so, so excited. I’m not sure when we’ll release it. Probably in the Spring.

All right folks, that’s about all for now.

A little update.

Hello friends!

I write to you from the bus in Greensboro, NC. Yes, I said bus. I’ve had multiple moments on this little tour where I’ve asked myself, “Where am I? How did I get here?” It’s not that I don’t know, it’s just that I can’t believe the Groves actually asked us to join their tour, and I’m still finding it hard to believe that Tyler and I actually make music together for a living. Sometimes I think this whole thing might actually work out. We’ll see.

We had a day off in Greensboro yesterday. We spent it hanging out with Audrey and having dinner with a family that’s hosted a couple of house shows for us here. It’s so good to see them. Their little girls are ridiculously cute. You may have seen the video we posted on a facebook about a month ago with Grayson singing, “You gave up your fattest cat…ever.” Last night it was your “black-eyed cat.” She loves the song, but just can’t seem to get the cat right.

Last week was incredibly humbling. It literally takes 10 full days for my tongue to heal after a seizure, and it always gets a lot worse before it gets better. On Thursday it felt awful. I was hardly talking to anyone and I didn’t eat anything but soup. It just hurt too much. Thankfully we didn’t have a show that night, but the next morning I woke up in even worse pain and started throwing up. I literally have not been ill like that in at least 5 years. Everyone on the tour was so understanding. Tyler’s mom was only 45 minutes away so she came and sat with me while Tyler went to rehearsal. A doctor came to visit me in my hotel room (serioulsy?!)  and prescribed an antibiotic. Up until about 6pm I really wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to perform. But I’d made up my mind that I was going to. We were standing backstage, about to be announced and I thought, “I don’t know if this is such a good idea.” Miraculously, the Lord gave me strength and I was able to make it through the 20 minute set. We played everything slow because I really just couldn’t keep up, but the pitch was there and I was even able to talk some. It was incredible.

The Lord is so faithful.

We’re finishing up the tour this week:

10/19 (tonight!) Greensboro, NC
10/20  Raleigh, NC
10/21 Chattanooga, TN
10/22 Gainesville, FL
10/23 Atlanta, GA

Check out the tour page for details.

And we’re off!

We slept on this bus last night:

I know it’s not really that big of a deal, but it feels like it to us. I still am having a hard time believing that this is actually happening. Matt Slocum is on this tour…Sixpence None the Richer’s debut album was the first CD I bought with my own money. It’s just sort of bizarre.

We’re hanging out in Roanoke, VA today before we make our way up to NJ tonight. It takes a lot longer to get places in a bus. But it’s a lot more comfortable.

Looking forward to seeing some of you at the shows!

Reason to Gather Tour!

We head out today for the Reason to Gather tour with Sara Groves and Audrey Assad. I can’t believe it’s here already. It seems like just yesterday we were freaking out after getting an email from the Groves inviting us to join them. It almost makes me think that this whole music thing could actually work. We’ll see. We’re ridiculously excited.

I’d appreciate your prayers this week. Early Sunday morning I had the first seizure I’ve had since December of last year. I think I’m disappointed more than anything. I was so hoping to make it a full year. Anyway, I’m feeling pretty good today. My sore limbs seem to be healing. I bit my tongue pretty badly and it sounds like I’m trying to talk with a mouthful of peanut butter. Hopefully the swelling will go down and the pain will subside before the first show on Friday. At any rate, prayers for healing are greatly appreciated.

Our friend JJ Heller released a new record today and it sounds awesome. You should probably go get it. She’s number 1 on the itunes singer-songwriter charts right now! So exciting!

Here’s where the tour is taking us:

10/14 Clinton, NJ
10/16 Indianapolis, IN
10/19 Greensboro, NC
10/20 Raleigh, NC
10/21 Chattanooga, TN
10/22 Gainesville, FL
10/23 Atlanta, GA

And in November:

11/13 Pasco, WA
11/14 Spokane, WA

Hope to see many of you!

Coming Home!

To quote Caedmon’s Call, “I’m coming home, I’m coming home…” Well, we are anyway.

We’re on the road between Columbus, OH and NASHVILLE! Woot! (Do people say woot still?) Between Sept 6th and today we played 22 shows! Crazy, right?! Crazy fun that is! It’s been an adventure to be sure. While we had a blast and definitely consider this our most successful tour to date (where are you guys coming from?!), I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and cooking and baking and all of those things.

At least for a few days…

We hook up with Sara Groves and Audrey Assad for the Reason to Gather Tour a week from today! Is this real life?!

And tomorrow we head in to the studio for pre-production for our new record. This is crazy. I think we’ll sleep in January.
